Modd.In - Previously TheDgtl Bukkit Plugin Search

Bukkit.Modd.In is the much needed rewrite of http://p.thedgtl.net, and the premier Open Source Bukkit plugin search engine. Currently achieving 8,000 unique visitors a month, and 30,000 pageviews, we are hoping to increase those numbers and offer our users the features they want and use the most.

Why should you use Bukkit.Modd.in?
The forums and BukkitDev both have search engines, but they both have their flaws, namely that it searches the entire body of the plugin description. Though this can be helpful in rare cases, it is more likely you are looking for a specific plugin by name or author, and that is what Bukkit.Modd.in lets you do.

Bukkit.Modd.in also has the added benefit that the latest download link is shown on the search result page, thus allowing you to download without requiring multiple page loads just to get to the download link. You can also sort the result list by Total Downloads, Last Updated, or Name.

You also have the added benefit that the entire site is Open Source, and written in Ruby on Rails, so if there's a new feature you want implemented, you are more than welcome to make a pull request, or post a feature request yourself.

Why did you open source the site?
We want to give our users the best experience possible, which means having the best features and fastest site possible. The site was written as an introduction to Ruby on Rails, and as such may not be as optimized as it could be. By open sourcing the site, we give other users the ability to create new features, help with optimizations, and generally see how things are done behind the scenes.

Why are there ads on the site?
We have done our best to make the ads as unobtrusive as possible, but a lot of users are probably going to notice them. Sadly, running a site like this isn't free, there's domain costs, server costs, and the cost of all the energy drinks consumed while diligently fixing bugs and adding features. The ads themselves are your standard Google Adsense ads, which means if you run AdBlock, you won't see them. We will kindly ask that you turn off AdBlock if you find the site useful, as it does help keep things running smoothly.

Can you implement [feature x]?
If you have a feature suggestion that won't require rewriting the entire site, feel free to post it here! We take all suggestions into consideration, and plan on implementing any that we are able to if we feel it will benefit the majority of users.

I found a bug, what should I do?
If you find any bugs, please do us and our users a favor and post them. We want to get all of the kinks worked out as soon as possible, and this is going to require a lot of user input. Even if you just notice some odd behaviour and you're not sure if it's a bug, post just to let us know what you've noticed!

You said the site is open source, where is the source?
You can find the source on BitBucket at https://bitbucket.org/TheDgtl/bplugged/src
It may be moved to GitHub eventually.

We want to thank all of our past users, and any new users we may gain from this post. If it weren't for the Bukkit community, the people who run it, and the people who partake, this site wouldn't be possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them here and we will get back to you as soon as possible!

We will be posting status updates to this topic, as well as new features we implement. See you around!

A neat feature of Bukkit.Modd.in is the ability to search for a plugin from your Chrome address bar! Simply type "bukkit.modd.in" and press tab, your address bar is now a search bar!

This saves you even needing to load the index before you can search for plugins, it's amazing!

Looks like we had some unintended downtime this morning due to a scraper bug. The frontend issue has been resolved, and the backend issue will be fixed ASAP.

Had to do a slight rollback and re-sync, this has caused a small hiccup in the up-to-dateness of data, but everything should be fine now. Download data is still being polled, but all plugin results are still listed.

I pushed a big change to scraping last night. There is now a 5-page leeway for updated plugin checks so that plugins that are awaiting approval during a scrape will be scraped once approved. I will be modifying scrape times this evening to be the following:
5am -11pm: Update scrape hourly (Grab only the latest plugins)
12am: Do a full list parse to check for missing plugins
1am: Do a full check of the plugin database and remove deleted plugins (This takes approximately 3 hours with the 6,000 plugins currently cataloged)
All times are Pacific.
