On the topic of money collection in Stargate...

It's relatively easy to set up "Server Banks" using iConomy, just make an account for a non-existent player
eg. LootBank. (I use this for ChestShop). Would be possible to setup a default player (one of these fakes) to
collect the payments for stargate creation and/or stargate fees?
It would also be handy to be able to create gates with an owner other than yourself (without editing the portals file :P).
That would be an Admin function... Admins could make LootBank gates.
[I get hassled by players who have to pay to use the (few non-free) gates I created.
Weirdly enough, they'd happily pay LootBank for the same privelige :P]

... Oh well, just an idle thought or two.

Hey drakia is there anyway to make a portal teleport a user to a totally random location?

Actually that's a good idea, Dark approves!

+1

(Perhaps Dark should stop speaking about himself in third person..)
I haven't played BF3 in a couple months why did I still have my stats down here? Maybe I need Skyrim stats!! :D

An option to make a random gate, drop a user in a non world guard region would be amazing. (Configurable in config) - Meaning config option would be something like should random gate be totally random or non worldguard.

I can't get the custom gate layout thing to work at all!

I tried to make a woolgate.gate file that uses wool blocks as gate material but I keep getting:

2012-01-03 20:49:57 [INFO] [Stargate::Gate::Matches] Entrance/Exit Material Mismatch: 0
2012-01-03 20:49:57 [INFO] [Stargate::Gate::Matches] Block Type Mismatch: 2 != 35
2012-01-03 20:49:57 [INFO] [Stargate::createPortal] Could not find matching gate layout

Startup log: http://pastebin.com/UVM9jd3j

I used a infotool and checked every single block and all of them returned proper blue wool id:35, there is no grass (ID:2) near the gate at all.

MY woolgate file looks like:
portal-open=8
portal-closed=79
toowner=false
X=35
-=35

XXXX
X..X
-..-
X*.X
XXXX

*edit*
So I thought we could specify any ID for the "portal-closed" option, turns out it only works when its 0 (aka air) if thats the case why does the option exist?

I did a /sg reload later on and forgot to mention that, sorry.
It showed 2 layouts after that.

I got it to work by changing portal-closed= to "0". I was hoping I could put another value there to show its closed. My idea was to have water for open and ice for closed.

I am pretty sure you can use things other than air for the portal-closed block.
One of my standard gate formats uses stone (ID:1) when it's closed, and they work fine.
I haven't tried many other block types, but I suspect something like Ice (ID:79) might be a problem
because it can change state. I doubt leaves would work any better. I couldn't get fire to work (ID:51) :D
I also made a lavagate, using portal-open=10. That worked, and was every bit as much fun as expected.
... all that said, ice would be cool as a gate material XD

Hmm I can give myself some ice blocks and place them no prob, even in a desert biome. It's just when I place torches/glowstone/lava near them that they turn to water.
That being said I can understand that it could turn into a problem if I use ice if someone decides to place a torch on the gate and suddenly the place is a flood and the gate will stop working.

I'll do some tests with stone and other things, maybe black wool might look nice.

... on a related subject, some Pie-in-the Sky for dessert.
Spout block support would be an interesting addition. The custom blocks that can be added by Spout Plugins
might make ideal choices for stargate construction materials in some setups. Naqueda, anyone?
Maybe a custom gate-open material would also be realistic with Spout. Or Illuminated chevron blocks.
I doubt it's possible or practical to implement either of these yet, but it might be worth aiming for.
If you're gonna go Spout friendly, it seems a reasonable ask.

So, am I raving? :P
